CounterPath Gets Distribution

Image via CrunchBase There are four parts to marketing that we learned in Marketing 101. They are called the four P’s. Price. Product. Promotion and Place. As long as I’ve been working in technology, one of the most misunderstood and weakest areas of effort is place. And place = distribution and distribution = sales. Many companies in technology today think that sales is all about the web site. Well in technology sales two companies that sell better in the business verticals than anyone are Cisco and DELL. Cisco routers are the staple of the industry, while Dell servers power more... Read more »

Skype Deal Officially Closed – Now A Microsoft Division

After clearing all the regulatory hurdles in the EU and USA, Skype is now a division of Microsoft. For the first few months we likely won't see much change in how Skype behaves, but over time, we will. For many Skype users the change won't impact them, but for some, expect to see some things end. My predictions-no more effort on business, especially the Enterprise. The departure of David Gurle a few months back was the tell in that direction, but other moves have also been made, including an internal resturtucturing over the last few months that has realigned power... Panasonic Gets The Cloud

Image via CrunchBase Panasonic, long only thought of as a consumer brand--which they're not only--has entered the cloud communications space with support from Broadsoft. The new entry to the market is simply called Panasonic Cloud. Simply put, the company which once rejected ad great Jerry Della Famina's ad agency to work with them when you suggested the line "from the people who brought you Pearl Harbor" is about to make a strafing run at the US Small and Medium Business market with a $39.95 a month per line charge, after the purchase of equipment that runs $299 for one corded... Nice To See He’s Back Too-Alec Saunders

Image by brycej via Flickr He's been swamped making Calliflower a rock solid flat rate conferencing platform. And his blogging suffered. And now...HE's BACK. The he is Alec Saunders who for a while was spending more time running his business and a lot less time blogging. Well, he's back. And that's a good thing. Alec is one of the few bloggers out there who has the experience and the chops to back up what he writes about. So I say...(to the theme of Welcome Back, Kotter. Welcome Back!!! I can relate to blogging suffering while business focus takes over. In... Read more »

Dean Bubley Goes Over The Top on OTT

Image via Wikipedia My pal in London, Dean Bubley, is so insightful. Between he and Martin Geddes, when I'm over in London, the two are the master class leaders in delivering insight, perspective and opinion, or what I tend to call IPO in the realm of socialized media (i.e. using a blog, or other online technology to tell a story.) Grabbing tea with Martin or a tasty libation with Dean is always full of some new words of wisdom. Absent of a ten hour flight and some lost sleep, their respective blog posts, and the occasional Skype call, has to... Read more »

Panasonic DECT SIP Phone Tie Up With Pac-West

Image via CrunchBase Pac-West, one of the emerging mid-tier players in hosted VoIP, and Panasonic announced the certification of two Pananonic SIP phones for deployment on the Pac-West network today. While normally a boring type of news item, when put in conjunction with Pac-Weat being acquired by TelePacific and TelePacific's acquisition of former client Covad Wireless, and their very robust Fixed WiMax network, it means the combined TelePacific/PacWest now has a business grade voice bundle it can sell through to to a group of very needy companies that are front line in wanting to ditch the traditional telcos and have... Skype SILK Codec Conference Bridge Needed

Image via Wikipedia Skype has the SILK codec but no one in the conference bridge business has incorporated SILK into it.Nothing sounds as good, or works as easily, and since Skype to Skype bridge calls, like those to HiDef Conferencing are free, nothing is as economical. If Skype wants the enterprise market to embrace it, Skype should support the development of a SILK based conferencing bridge and not be waiting for Citrix Online's integration much later this year. Any takers? Given the millions of users of conferencing, the ability to go SuperWideBand creates a far better experience. One would think... Read more »

Skype Adds Ads

Skype is adding ads to what will be a new "home" tab in their rapidly becoming a browser experience like client. I recall when J2, the parent company of Jfax added ads. I stopped using it as I didn't want to be paying for a service as a subscriber to be advertised to. To Skype's credit they are putting the ads somewhere out of the main line of communications, but can't you see the day where you get an intro video before your video conference that is "this video call is brought to you by...." As a paying subsciber I'd... Read more »
