In the story both CounterPath's SVP Todd Carothers and I were quoted. My view is centered around the concept of utility. People will simply get more use out of a tablet based communications hub than the standard desk phones. It one of the reasons why Cloud TC and Panasonic both are making desk phones based upon the Android OS. An iPad in a Gorrilla stand makes for a very good desk phone already. So will Android... Cisco Drops Umi, CounterPath adds Video to iPhone App
On the day that Bloomberg reports client CounterPath announcing video being added to Bria for the iPhone, Slashgear is reporting the demise of Cisco's Umi. There didn't seem to be a lot of takers for Umi, as single purpose hardware is pretty much on the decline due to the growth of apps on tablets like the iPad and Android. Based on testing I've done in the beta trial, the Bria for iPhone client can provide high quality audio and video on the go, which is why this... Read more »

Why Apple Wins and Everyone Else Just Tries to Play the Game
Image via Wikipedia I bought my first Apple in 1984. It was a Mac. For the next tweleve years I was an Apple user. I took the abuse, and one day left for Dell. Six years or so later I came back and while I still own more than a few Windows machines mostly Netbooks, one full size laptop and two desktops that rarely get used any more, the more I use Apple products, the less and less I want to use the other brands. Here's why: 1. They care. I had an issue with my natively unlocked iPhone 4... Read more »

Skype Updates Android-Adds Features
Yesterday Skype announced an upgrade of their Android client (2.6). The three main features added were: The new features include most of all extended battery life, on top of file sending of photos and videos. These features likely come from some of the technology acquired when they picked off QIK just before the sale to Skype. Sadly, the Android OS is so fragmented Skype has to whitelist various devices in order for video to work.
