Wow, this was an extremely dull presentation. It is no wonder, because these are $1000 phones that essentially provide nothing more than can be obtained through better, vastly less expensive options. I prefer a migration path that doesn’t involve rip-and-replace, that allows me to use ANY device that doesn’t have to bear the expensive Cisco label. Further, at 130 kbps per call, Cisco is a bandwidth hog. Want your phone to run an open SIP protocol? THat will cost you more. Buyer beware!

There must be some ways you could get rid of all these hardwares and just be able to use existing computers for pbx, voip, etc…. Definitely, the technology is there. Someone or a company has to come up with some good software that could all these fuctions.

Looking into Fonality Voip system using SIP and found they will support the Cisco 7960 IP Phone but not the Cisco 7940. Both phone have the same Bios setup…

SIP enables these phones to work with non cisco platforms like Arreva Communications Indigo 3000 telephony server. Cisco functionality at half the price.
