Product Description
The Zoom Phone Adapter for Skype lets you use your favorite phone with Skype. You can plug a normal phone into the adapter, and then make or receive calls using that phone. You can even plug in a cordless base station for 1, 2, 4, or even more cordless phones, and then make or receive calls using any of those phones! The Zoom Phone Adapter is easy to install and use, but it’s very powerful, especially if you choose to plug the adapter into normal phone service. Powerful bridging functions allow Skype calls to be forwarded to cell/mobile phones and other conventional phone numbers. This lets you use a mobile phone (”cell phone”) to make calls using Skype and save lots of money, or to receive Skype calls, making you easier to reach. Remote phones can also dial into the adapter to make outbound Skype calls. The Model 5900 is USB port powered to reduce power adapter clutter. The compact size allows convenient placement in any setting. There’s no better time than now to extend the power of Skype. And there’s no better way than with the Zoom Phone Adapter for Skype.

I went from a $56.00 a month phone bill with a BIG NAME Telco to a $39.00 a month one, to a $29.00 with my cable to this for less than $6.00 a month. Sound quality is pretty decent most the time, especially with High Speed internet. I recently downgraded to economy internet and I do notice a slight decrease in quality, but it is still very usable considering the savings.

Only negatives are that it doesn’t do 911 calls and you have to be aware of your internet use. If you are downloading, or if you are on a shared home network where others are using the network for gaming, you may see these things affect the quality of the calls. If you have full control of the internet, the calls are usually nice and clean.

Personally, I have a Cell, but I don’t want everyone calling that number. Plus it’s still nice to have a home number with the ability to turn it on and off via software. When I do us it, I love it. I am in US and all I do is pick up the cordless I have attached to it. I dial 0111, then the number, then press * and I am calling. Well worth the money savings.

I asked for a Zoom electronic interface to mate with the skype phone on my computer. It was supposed to allow me to make skype calls using an ordinary home phone plugged into the interface. I followed the directions that came with an included CD, to the letter. I was able to produce an alarm-like dial tone on the home phone. But there were no instructions that told me what to do next. I tried simply dialing a number but that produced no result. Zoom did not have an 800 number, but one you had to pay for. I dialed it twice with my skype phone, but could not use its tone-activated automatic menus, so had to use a snail phone to reach them. I was put on hold for long periods. Later, I was told to leave my phone number and I would be called later. I never received a call back, nor did was any recorded or live promise to call me back ever fulfilled. I reached a technical support person on one occasion. He somehow got it in his head that I was using dial-up to make phone calls. I was not. I have DSL. Then he told me that he didn’t know how to make Zoom work with a Skype phone, but would put me in contact with someone in the technical shop who did know how. He either put me on hold for a long period after which no one ever picked up, or told me he would have someone call back. I was not called back ever by anyone at Zoom despite several promises. Two other attempts to talk to Zoom technicians, were met with mechanical voice instructions to leave a phone number and I would be called later at that number. I never received a callback from Zoom from leaving those instructions. I tried to google online instructions from users who had encountered zoom-skype phone interface problems and solved them. I found a lot of folks on forums who had problems, but I found NO solutions on any of those forums. The Zoom Skype phone interface is simply a product that is not even being honestly offered in the marketplace. In the end, I sent the product back to Amazon and received a full reimbursement.

This box is great, it perfectly responded to my needs of disconnecting my normal snail phone line and doing all calls through skype. The sound quality is very good.

I did not give five stars because the dual mode using both the skype system and the snail phone apparently only works with “regular” non-modem based snail telephone lines. I tried having it work with a telephone hooked up through a Comcast broadband modem and it did not work. This seems to check out with the other one star review of this product which had his snail phone connected through DSL.

This is the perfect product if you are looking to use a regular old phone with your skype service. Whether you have home service in addition to skype or not… It works either way. And really simple to install. Highly recommend this product, as I have researched all options.
