Vonage sucks so bad. It’s only a matter of time before someone sues b/c 911 won’t work. Just a matter of time.

We had Vonage for two years in the Ventura County area, and we never had a problem with it. I never had to make one call to customer service. Never had to use the 911 feature, thankfully.

Vonage Suck! I don’t recommend it to anyone. I had it for about 4 months now, and the service is so bad, so terrible, that I have called customer service 47 times in that 4 months period, Can you believe it!? Too many service interruptions. The first 2 weeks everything was great, and then the quality of phone service was so choppy that you can’t have a conversation with anyone. If you considering in getting Vonage, I can guarantee you, YOU WILL REGRET IT! So what I did, I canceled my service.

This is a good way to make it work if you do not have your router set up properly, and don’t want to figure it out. You could have just disabled DHCP on the router.

The problem is that the Vonage device is looking for an IP, and instead of going to your cable modem for it, it’s getting it from your router, which is giving it a private IP. Just disable the DHCP on the router, and everything will have to go to the cable modem for an IP. Everything will work better.

Yea, it still works. However, using two routers like this really slows down your internet connection especially if you live on base and have to subscribe to the pathetic internet service offered. Also, because of the slow connection if you talk on Vonage, you can’t use the internet at the same time. Conversely if you are downloading Bittorrent stuff or something you can’t talk on Vonage.

Cool. Just tried 933. I knew I entered the info in my account months ago but now I don’t have to wait for an emergency to know if I really have it.
    Thanks

You need to configure 911 with vonage E911 ,enhanced 911.(Log on to your account Dashboard >features>On the top of the Features page you will see the 911 Dialing feature box in red). To find out if 911 is activated, simply dial 933 from your Vonage phone & it is available in most areas

  11. ballinboi3546 on November 9th, 2009 17:32

yea they do they can trace the line. cant they lol??????

  12. TeamCrusade on November 9th, 2009 18:13

Because with vonage when you dial 911, instead of the call going direct to emergency, it goes to the non emergency line or the sheriff’s office. Also the police have no way of knowing what is the adress of from where the call came from.

  13. asaisaac on November 9th, 2009 18:36

    why?

  14. kylenparis on November 9th, 2009 19:17

ok so it worked in 2008-does it still work in 2009? really need to know…please respond asap! if not does anyone know of any work-arounds that work now?

oh yeah, screw u korea! go build your economy with korean money not off the blood sweat and tears of american service members who are already severely underpaid and under appreciated, cos god knows you dont triple charge your own people to make international calls. oh and you can now start gaurding the dmz – seems like fair trade to me

  15. TeamCrusade on November 9th, 2009 20:06

Hope you never have to dial 911.

  16. lahusso on November 9th, 2009 20:19

Typo:Remove the words AND THEN I HAD which follow the word:Vonage Network.

  17. lahusso on November 9th, 2009 20:20

The Vonage Router i have(VDV21-VD) said it was connecting to the Vonage Sender and then said it was registering to the Vonage Network and then i had after i reset the routers and modem
and then i had the handset symbol and it indicated:Ready to Make Phone Call. The information was very helpful.Keep this video on here.

  18. lahusso on November 9th, 2009 20:54

    Typo:Ehternet is Ethernet.

  19. lahusso on November 9th, 2009 21:14

I have an ARRIS Telephony Modem that uses the USB plug also for the internet connection.
I had trouble getting everything to work with a Linksys Router.I ran the ethernet cable from the ethernet jack on the cable modem to the
Vonage Router Internet Connection and ran another Ehterhet Cable from the Yellow Port
on the Vonage Box to an ethernet jack on the back of the computer and reset all three things (Vonage Router,Cable Modem and Linksys).

  20. lahusso on November 9th, 2009 21:25

I had trouble getting the Vonage VDV21-VD router to get a dial tone.I got a busy signal
and error codes plus a message saying it wasn’t configured and tried several ways of hooking it up and it wouldn’t work using Linksys Router. But your method worked.

  22. sammy005 on November 9th, 2009 22:35

  23. Lovethyneighbor on November 9th, 2009 22:59

so is it still working? they blocked magic jack now the jerks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. smoothj24 on November 9th, 2009 23:59

Hehe, that would work, but you need to keep the computer on all the time (a lot of use do that anyway)

  25. smoothj24 on November 10th, 2009 00:21

Nice, but there could be a reason why it didn’t work. I’m not 100% sure of the situation, but from what I can tell the DSL modem could be locked to the wireless’s MAC address. If you power cycle it should correct it. If not, then you may have to do a mac clone on the vonage device so the modem can “think” its still talking to the wireless router. Also, its not good to reset your wireless since you loose all your config, including wireless security. In the end, no matter what – it works!!! :)
